Type II Studio ("we," "us") makes physical map artifacts from routes you have earned. To do that, we handle some of your data. This page explains what we collect, why, and what control you have over it. We collect the minimum needed to render, save, and produce your artifact — nothing is sold, and nothing is shared beyond the services required to operate. You can withdraw consent at any time by disconnecting Type II Studio from your Strava account (in Strava: Settings → My Apps) or by contacting us; upon disconnection or deletion request, we delete your Strava-derived data from our systems. When you request deletion, we will confirm in writing once it is complete. Strava may also collect usage data related to this application's use of the Strava API, as described in Strava's own privacy policy.

What we collect

Account information

If you create an account, sign-in is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider. We receive your email address and, if you sign in with Google, your name and profile email. We use this to identify your saved projects and contact you about your orders.

Strava data

If you choose to connect Strava, we access only the activities you select, through Strava's official API and with your explicit authorization. For a selected activity we retrieve the route (GPS coordinates) and basic statistics — distance, elevation gain, moving time, and date — solely to render and produce your map artifact. Your Strava data is treated as private to you: it is never displayed to other users, never used for any purpose other than creating your artifact, and never sold or shared with third parties. Temporary caches of Strava data are cleared within 7 days. When you save a design or place an order, the route data needed to produce that specific artifact is stored with your design at your direction, so your order can be fulfilled and reproduced if needed. You can disconnect Strava at any time, and you can request deletion of any stored route data (see "Your choices" below).

Files you upload

You may upload GPX files, photos, background images, or logos as part of a design. These are stored with your saved design so it can be previewed, resumed, and printed. Uploaded images appear only on your own artifact.

Design data

When you save a project, we store the design itself: layout, sizes, colours, text you enter, and a preview image of your composition. This is what lets you return to a draft and what we reference when producing your order.

Order and payment information

Checkout is handled by Shopify. We do not see or store your payment card details. Shopify provides us your name, shipping address, email, and order contents so we can produce and ship your artifact. Shopify's own privacy policy governs payment processing.

Technical data

We store a small identifier in your browser's local storage so your drafts can be found when you return on the same device. We use analytics services (Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, Vercel Analytics) to understand how the site is used in aggregate — page views, general usage patterns, and errors. Analytics data is not connected to your designs or route data.

Why we collect it

Everything above serves one of four purposes: rendering your design in the browser, saving your drafts so you can return to them, producing and shipping the physical artifact you order, and supporting you if something goes wrong. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell it to anyone.

Where your data lives

Design files and route data are stored on servers operated by Railway. Our website is hosted on Vercel. Authentication is operated by Clerk, and commerce by Shopify. Each of these providers processes data only to deliver their service to us.

How long we keep it

Saved drafts are retained so you can return to them. Files associated with a completed order are retained so we can support reprints and replacements. If you would like a draft, an order file, or your account deleted, contact us and we will remove it. Strava-derived data associated with a placed order is retained only as needed to produce, support, and if necessary reproduce that order.

Your choices

You can disconnect Strava at any time from your Strava settings or within Studio. You can request a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it — including stored route data, uploaded images, and your account — by emailing us at the address below. We will act on deletion requests promptly.

Children

Our products and services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be noted plainly.
